Z: We marched over the Edmund Pettus bridge in Selma.

Z: The marchers marched from Selma, AL to Montgomery, AL.

M: Where did you stay when you went to Selma?
Z: We stayed in a Hampton Inn and Suites in Montgomery, AL.

M: Why is Selma important?
Z: Selma is important because it was a pivotal point in the struggle for voting rights for people of color.

M: Why is it important that we know our history?
Z: It is important so that we understand the greatness of our ancestors so that the privileges we have now, that they fought for, can be used appropriately.

Please watch these interview videos. This is so historical. Please WATCH!

Masai's Selma interview
Zora: What did you like about Selma?
Masai: Selma seems like a community where everyone is close to each other.

Z: What was your favorite part of your visit to Selma?
M: I enjoyed the workshop about tracking.

Z: What did you learn in the workshop about tracking?
M: Tracking is education inequality. Tracking is when schools teach different groups of children different things, so that one group is farther ahead than another. Too often, the children that are left behind are children of color.

Z: What was the most exciting food You ate in Selma?
M: Fried fish.

Z: Did you like the hotel?
M: It was great.

Z: What was it like to march on the Edmund Pettus bridge?
M: It was a very historic moment and I could feel the spirits of our ancestors who marched for us.

Z: Was it hot, warm, freezing or cold?
M: It was pretty warm.

Z: Who did you want to meet the most in Selma?
M: Common.

Here are some funny bloopers that we made when we were trying to make our Selma interview videos.

March on Washington

Zora: 50yrs. ago, there was a march on Washington. There was a march this year and I went. My brother came too. I saw my mom's friend. I saw a lot of other people. We went before the president spoke. It is important because Martin Luther King told his speech. Sorry about that I just got carried away. His speech is important all around. It was at the Lincoln  memorial. We parked the car and walked to the memorial.

Masai's piece:We went down to the Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday, August 28th, but they wouldn't let us in! It was so crowded. Since we were so far away, we couldn't hear the speeches so we left to try to catch some of them at home. We got home in time to see Barack Obama speak. Zora thought Barack Obama's speech was great. I had fun for the short time we were there partly because I got to eat fried chicken and partly because it was a once in a life time experience.

Why do we itch?

We itch because the nerve endings in our skin send a signal to our brain as a defense mechanism against anything that might cause possible harm. For example, if I get some dust on my skin my nerve endings will send a signal to my brain telling it that I have an itch.  There are other ways to trigger the nerve endings response to the brain. Another way to get an itch are from allergies, disease, emotions and infections.

Anaconda

The green anaconda is the biggest snake in the world. The anaconda usually lives in South America. A lot of anacondas are green. Anacondas are constricting snakes. That means that they are not venomous snakes and kill there prey by squeezing them. Some anacondas have spots. Some of the places that anacondas live are Columbia, Venezuela, The Guianas, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago. Anacondas kill there prey by squeezing them until they run out of air and suffocate. The smaller species of anaconda the yellow anaconda lives in Brazil, Bolivia and some parts of Argentina.

Hurricane Sandy

I did not go to school when Sandy came.  My mom went outside.  We watched the Voice & the Looney Tunes.  I was happy because I had no school !!!!!!!!!!!!!!  And Masai and I cleaned our rooms.

Life of Pi - Spoiler Alert!

I think that the religious outlook is amazing. I think that if you are going to choose the animal version of the story, I encourage you not to choose it because it portrays the humans as a better figure but choose it if you believe a God can help you to survive an ordeal with a Bengal Tiger, a Hyena, a Zebra and an Orangutan.  I do admit that there was a time I despised reading that book, I even despised picking it up. My mother forced me to read it, but once I reached part 2, I was glued to the spot. I couldn't take my eyes off of that book.

Yucky germs

Germs are a very very very very very small yucky
Bacteria & I just saw pictures of them & they look like worms & they are green.
Germs come when your hands are Derty & when other parts of your body are
Derty. When germs get on you they make you sick. Germs are on the ground so
Don't eat off the ground or you will get sick. Don't drink out of a cup
That's not been washed. When you wash your hands the good germs attack the bad germs and the bad germs get smaller and smaller and smaller. Good germs are not derty but they are if they fall on the floor. Good bye bad germs. Now good germs are all over you. When germs are getting washed in the sink the good germs attack.
